These are the volunteer opportunities at the 2018 Memphis Japan Festival
Assist exhibitors and vendors with unloading
Assist exhibitors and vendors at unloading areas and with set up at their tents. 7:00 - 10:00 AM
Children’s activities - Memphis Botanic Garden & University of Memphis Language Department
Work with children on Japanese art activities. 9:00 AM - 1:00 pm and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Check-in volunteers. Assist martial arts groups and performers and the Volunteer Coordinator and Stage Manager throughout the day as needed. 7:00 - 10:00 AM, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 2:00 - 5:30 PM.
Answer questions about the festival. Hand out programs. Ask Festival guests to fill out surveys. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Assist throughout the day as needed in all festival areas. Check cafe tables and chairs and be sure cafes are looking neat and are trash-free. Assist exhibitors and vendors with breakdown and loading at the end of the festival. 7:00 - 10:00 AM, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM and 2:00 - 6:00 PM.
Goldfish Scooping Tent
Make the Goldfish scoopers (poi), putting paper on the frames. Show children playing how to scoop the rubber goldfish into the poi until the paper tears. Count the scooped goldfish and give each child a prize. Return the goldfish to the pool for next group of players. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM
Hand out festival programs and survey. Answer questions from festival-goers and provide directions. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Hello Kitty Bounce House
Collect signed waivers for all children. Monitor bounce house to be sure play is safe - children of the same size in the bounce house and not too many children. Set and monitor time for each group in the bounce house. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Kimono Dressing Experience
Assist festival guests with dressing in kimono they purchase at the festival or bring from home. Kimono dressing experience preferred. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Martial Arts Area
Assist martial arts groups and performers move, set up and dismantle equipment. Keep time for martial arts demonstrations as needed. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Purikura Photo Booth
Help festival guests set up their photos. Take photos of guests with cell phones. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
Sumo Wrestling Circle
Get suits ready for sumo wrestlers. Assist wrestlers putting on sumo suits. Disinfect suits after each match. Collect signed waivers from all wrestlers. Monitor and set times for each match. 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM and 1:00 - 5:00 PM.
